The Bully: By Penelope Douglas 3.5/5

Genre: Young Adult Contemporary

Sensuality: 8

My Rating: 3.5/5

Does anyone else have a sudden craving for dysfunctional young adult romance books these days? I am loving the stuff!

I am not sure I love Douglas's The Bully though, but I enjoyed finding a new author.

One theme that stuck out through out the entire book for me was revenge.

The story evolved around the relationship of two young teenagers in their final year of high school. Tate and Jared.

I am not going to go into too much detail, but when they were young they were best friends and suddenly the relationship deteriorated. Tate started to get bullied by Jared. After some time abroad she came back to finish her final high school year. Of course the classic high school/teenage drama is in abundance with the help of not so interesting secondary characters.

Now, I never read a book focusing on bullying. So I found that aspect of it interesting. And I enjoyed how Tate's character grew stronger in the book.

BUT! Some of the scenes were overly teenager hormonal-like. I know it is to be expected of a young adult book. I am not sure that very young readers are Douglas's sole expected audience though, based on the very vivid sex scenes in the book (I shall address this phenomenon in a next post). But any hoo..... when reading the book I was never bored and was always curious as to what would happen next. Probably because Tate really was a cool girl.

I felt some cheesy Grease Lightening moments there sometimes Penelope! But since I am a major Grease fan I forgive you.

The book all together was pretty good. I am sure there are even better things to come from this author. I think I remember some grammar issues there, some reviewers get really pissed when they see errors in books. I shall warn the masses that you shall find some errors in this bad boy. So if that is an issue for you, then don't read the book. Things like that don't faze me though.

Laters!
